About the AI Image Extender (Uncrop)
The Img Stop AI Image Extender – also called uncrop or outpainting – makes a photo wider or taller without cropping it or squashing it. Turn a vertical phone picture into a 16:9 banner, a landscape into a square post or a 4:5 Instagram photo, and the AI paints the new area so it continues the background of the original.
The AI runs on your device: Standard (MI-GAN, 28 MB) or HD (LaMa, 200 MB), downloaded once and then kept in your browser. It extends the picture step by step from the edges outwards. It is at its best with backgrounds such as sky, walls, sand, grass, water and studio backdrops; it does not invent new objects and takes no text prompts. Your photo is never uploaded.

When to use it
- Turn a vertical phone photo into a 16:9 YouTube thumbnail or website banner.
- Make a landscape photo square or 4:5 for Instagram without cutting anything off.
- Create a 9:16 story or phone wallpaper from a horizontal picture.
- Add empty background space for text in an advert or poster.
- Give a tightly cropped product or portrait shot more room on a studio backdrop.
Tips for the best result
- Photos with simple edges – sky, sea, a plain wall, sand or grass – extend most convincingly.
- If a person or object is cut off at the edge, the AI will not draw the missing part well; leave that side unextended.
- For a large extension, choose HD, or extend in two smaller steps.
- Place the photo against the side where the subject is cut off, so new space only goes where the background is simple.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extend an image with AI for free?
Add your photo to the Img Stop AI Image Extender, choose the new shape and where the photo sits, then click “Extend with AI”. The AI fills the new area on your device and you download the result.
What does “uncrop” mean?
Uncropping is the opposite of cropping: instead of cutting the photo smaller, you add new space around it. The AI fills that space so it looks like part of the original scene.
Can I type a prompt to say what to add?
No. The AI has no text prompts – it continues the background it sees at the edges of your photo. It does not invent new people, buildings or objects.
Which photos work best?
Photos whose edges show background: sky, clouds, water, sand, grass, walls, floors and studio backdrops. Busy scenes or subjects cut off at the edge are much harder to extend naturally.
Standard or HD – which should I choose?
Standard (28 MB) is a fast download and works well for small extensions. HD (200 MB) takes longer to download and run, but usually fills larger areas more naturally.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The AI is downloaded once to your browser and the photo is extended on your device.
