What size should a profile picture be?

Should I download PNG or JPG?
PNG keeps the corners outside the circle or rounded square transparent. JPG cannot be transparent, so it is saved as a filled square – apps such as WhatsApp or LinkedIn crop it to a circle themselves.
Can I move or zoom my face?
