About the Video to Images (MP4 to JPG)

Video to images – Video to Images (MP4 to JPG)

The Img Stop Video to Images tool saves still pictures from a video at full resolution. Play or scrub the video, step one frame forwards or backwards to find the sharpest moment, and capture it – or let the tool take frames automatically at a regular interval, a fixed number spread evenly across a section, or every single frame of a short range.

Frames are saved as JPG, PNG or WebP with a quality and size of your choice and named after their time in the video. The video is played by your own browser, so even long or private recordings are never uploaded.

When to use it

  • Get a sharp still photo from a phone video of a moment you missed with the camera.
  • Make a thumbnail for YouTube or a blog from your own clip.
  • Pull frames for a storyboard, tutorial or presentation.
  • Check a sports movement or a dashcam incident frame by frame.
  • Collect training images for a machine-learning project.

Tips for the best result

  • Step frame by frame around a moment – the sharpest frame is often one or two away from where you paused.
  • PNG keeps every detail but makes big files; JPG at 90 % is a good balance for photos.
  • “Every frame” makes many images quickly: choose a short range such as 2–5 seconds.
  • iPhone HEVC videos (.MOV) play in Safari; in other browsers convert them to MP4 first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a frame from a video as a picture?

Add the video to the Img Stop Video to Images tool, pause it at the moment you want (use ‹ and › to move one frame), and press “Capture this frame”. The picture appears below and can be downloaded as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Can I extract every frame of a video?

Yes. Choose “Every frame”, set the start and end time and click Extract. The tool detects the video’s frame rate and saves each frame in that range. Keep the range short, as one second of video can be 24 to 60 images.

Are the images full quality?

Frames are saved at the video’s full resolution unless you choose a smaller size. The quality is that of the video itself – a 1080p video gives 1920 × 1080 images.

Why will my MOV video not open?

iPhones often record MOV files in HEVC (H.265), which only some browsers can play. Open the tool in Safari, or convert the video to MP4 first.

How are the images named?

Each file is named after the video and the time of the frame, for example holiday-0m12s480.jpg, so they sort in order.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is played and the frames are saved by your own browser, on your device.
