Your files never leave your device. All processing happens in your browser.
Drop your .dcm files (or files without an extension) on the Img Stop DICOM to JPG tool. Choose a window preset such as Lung, Bone or Brain, or drag on the image to change the contrast. Pick a frame if the file has several, then click Export images to download JPG or PNG files. The pictures contain no patient data.
About the DICOM to JPG Converter & Viewer
The Img Stop DICOM to JPG Converter is a simple DICOM viewer that runs in your browser. It opens CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound and other medical images saved as DICOM, shows the main information such as modality, image size and study date, and lets you save the image as a normal JPG or PNG.
You can set the window (contrast) from the file, use presets for lung, bone, brain, abdomen and soft tissue, or simply drag on the picture. Multi-frame files get a frame slider and can be exported frame by frame in one ZIP. Patient name and ID are hidden by default and are never written into the exported pictures. Nothing is uploaded.

When to use it
- Look at the images on a CD from the hospital without installing a DICOM viewer.
- Put a scan picture into a report, presentation or teaching slide.
- Send an image to a doctor or colleague by email or chat without patient data.
- Save every frame of an ultrasound or angiography loop as pictures.
- Check what a DICOM file contains before importing it into other software.
Tips for the best result
- On CT images try the Lung, Bone and Soft tissue presets – each shows different details.
- Drag up or down on the image to make it brighter or darker, left or right to change the contrast.
- Choose PNG to keep every grey level exactly; JPG makes smaller files for sharing.
- The exported pictures are for viewing and sharing only, not for diagnosis.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a DICOM file without software?
Drop the file on this page. The image opens in your browser at once, with contrast presets and a frame slider. You do not need to install a DICOM viewer.
Do the JPG files contain patient information?
No. Only the pixels are saved. The patient name, ID, birth date and all other DICOM tags are left out, so the pictures are anonymous unless the name is burned into the image itself.
My files have no .dcm extension. Can I still open them?
Yes. Files from CDs are often named IM0001 or 00000001 without an extension. Choose or drop them as they are and they open like .dcm files.
Why does my file say the compression is not supported?
Some DICOM files use JPEG 2000, JPEG-LS or HTJ2K compression, which browsers cannot decode yet. Export the study again as uncompressed DICOM from your PACS or viewer and try once more.
What do window and level mean?
Medical images have far more grey levels than a screen can show. The level (centre) chooses which values look mid-grey and the width chooses how many values fit between black and white. Presets such as Lung or Bone set good values for those tissues.
Is this a medical device?
No. It is a simple viewer and converter for sharing and teaching. Use certified software for diagnosis.
