Drop a picture on the Img Stop Knitting Chart Generator, enter the width in stitches and your gauge (stitches and rows per 10 cm), choose flat or in the round and the number of yarn colours, then click Create pattern. The chart squares have the real shape of your stitches, rows are numbered from the bottom on alternate sides, and you get a PDF, a PNG chart, a knitted preview and a yarn list.
About the Knitting Chart Generator
The Img Stop Knitting Chart Generator turns a picture into a colourwork chart for intarsia, stranded or Fair Isle knitting. Knitted stitches are wider than they are tall, so a square chart squashes the picture. This tool uses your gauge to shape every chart square like a real stitch, so the knitted result keeps the shape of the picture.
Colours can come straight from the picture (named MC, CC1, CC2 …) or be matched to Red Heart Super Saver yarn. The chart reads from the bottom up, with right-side rows numbered on the right and wrong-side rows on the left for flat knitting, or all rows on the right for knitting in the round. A cleanup option removes lone stitches that make long floats. Your picture is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
Why does gauge matter for a knitting chart?
A knit stitch is wider than it is tall – often about 22 stitches and 30 rows per 10 cm. On square graph paper the picture comes out short and wide. This tool shapes the squares by your gauge, so the knitted picture keeps its proportions.
How do I read the chart?
Start at the bottom right. For flat knitting, right-side rows (odd numbers, on the right) are read from right to left and wrong-side rows (even numbers, on the left) from left to right. In the round, read every row from right to left.
What do MC and CC mean?
MC is the main colour (the most used yarn) and CC1, CC2 … are the contrast colours. With Red Heart Super Saver chosen, the legend shows the yarn code and name instead.
How accurate is the yarn estimate?
It is a rough guide based on the stitch width from your gauge and a typical yarn use per stitch, plus 15 %. Floats on the back use extra yarn, so buy a little more.
Can I use it for crochet or tapestry?
Yes. Enter your crochet gauge and choose "In the round" or "Flat" to match how you work the rows.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The chart and files are made in your browser on your own device.
